Cohousing Advocates -- Joelyn Malone, long time resident of Monterey Cohousing in Minneapolis with realtor partner Phil Stevenson ( www.cohousingadvocates.com ) -- are pursuing a new cohousing "model" in the Twin Cities of getting contingent agreements with developers of non-cohousing housing developments to make a portion of a proposed development into cohousing IF enough future cohousing residents buy in by a deadline. As of 5/08 there is one active proposal in St Paul - "Rivoli Bluff Cohousing" See Cohousing Advocates web site for details. The developer of "Farmer's Market Flats" Lowertown, (downtown St Paul) where Cohousing Advocates had proposed cohousing using this model (2007) decided that cohousing will not be included.
There has been a proposal (late 2007) for cohousing in Buffalo, MN ( NW of Minneapolis on the way to St Cloud). Blossom Hill Cohousing Community Initiative - Buffalo, Minnesota

Community in the Cities, St. Paul This cohousing group-in-formation has decided to suspend business meetings for now. We still have monthly potlucks, with a less formal orientation to cohousing in general. See our web site, , for details. We still have things to say, and we want to spread the news coming out of other groups. Probable next step: formal collaboration with another group, possibly through Cohousing Advocates. For more information, contact: Susan or Bob Hardman, (651) 649-1154 or send an e-mail to Sagesusan71 [at] aol.com
Former description of their proposal (now suspended) A cohousing group-in-formation, with the intention of being "senior- friendly" but not exclusively targeted to the 55+ crowd. See Community in the Cities, St. Paul
Island Park Cohousing, Fridley This proposal is defunct. This was a project to convert some of 100 plus apartments to one or more environmentally friendly cohousing communities. Located near unique park on Mississippi river just north of I-694 in Fridley.
Minneapolis-St. Paul Cohousing Project which had a number of Quaker members is inactive or maybe defunct as of Nov 2006. Contact Jim Lovestar at jimbo [at] consciousbody.info 612-588-8984
